Stuff this week

So this week has been somewhat uneventful, but yesterday my eyes were opened.

I went to Lowe's and picked up some sheetrock for Uncle Jim... I was driving in my uncle's small pickup, and I kept looking back afraid that the sheetrock was going to slide off the truck; well... You guessed it... I was at a stop light on E Monte Vista, and as soon as the light turned green, I hit the acceleration. I heard a thud outside. . . Oh no, that's not coming from the sheetrock in the back of my truck, that's someone else. . . I've got better luck than that . . . I just pushed the sheetrock up on the stop light, there's no way it fell . . . Well sure enough, it fell out. I looked back and watched the line of cars behind me swerving to dodge it. I turned around and went as fast as I could to go pick it back up. A van behind me had turned around too, and was following me. As soon as I got to the scene, I hopped out of my car, only to be greeted by two Mexicans who were already picking up the sheetrock. I was amazed, I had never seen anything like it. They helped me put all the sheetrock back into my car, and tied everything up so it wouldn't fall out again... And they didn't even ask for money. I gave them some, just because I was so grateful. Before I left, one of the guys stuck his hand out and said "Hi, I'm Arny", so I introduced myself to him and we talked a little.

I don't know if you've ever watched Crash, but it reminded me of that movie. I must admit, I am racist against illegals a lot of times; it is just not fair for anyone to let them in (but that's another story). But I realized that they were just regular people, and extremely hard working and kind. So yeah. That was my eye opener for this week.

Live and learn.

If I could go back to 9th grade

This is what I'd do

#1 - I wish I would have gotten really good grades and kept on caring about school like I did at GVCA. After 8th grade, I didn't care about school whatsoever. I did the minimum possible to still get A's and B's on the report card. I've learned very little in school since 8th grade. Seriously.
#2 - I wish I had read soo many more books. And not just technical books; books on philosophy, books on analyzing people, books on sales, novels, etc...
#3 - I wish I could be a really good Christian; its soo hard for me. I have everything I want and most of the time I feel like I have no need for God
#4 - I wish I had never listened to Eminem. I haven't listened to him for a few months, but I used to play his stuff religiously.
#5 - I wish that I would have focused on Flash. I could probably be one of the best Flash developers in the world right now. Instead, I wasted my time with friends.

There's a ton of things that I wouldn't take back though. I've learned a lot since 9th grade, and I have so much more to learn. They say "the more you know, the less you know", and I totally agree.

Right now, the only thing I want to learn in school is Spanish. It's a reality that there are millions of Mexicans coming into California; anyone with half a brain and a 5th grade education could just imagine the economic opportunities possible if they could harness the power of this new population.

October – February = Heaven

It's the moooost wonderful tiiiiime of the yeeear.... Ok but seriously, let me list why the next 5 months are straight up heaven to me.

October - Finally, I can walk outside without breaking a sweat. Wake up in the morning and it's in the low 40's outside, with the wind blowing through the trees across the street. It makes a nice sound.

But the best thing about October: The Playoffs. I'm sitting on the couch watching the first Yankees/Tigers game right now. I have so many memories from past Octobers that I will never forget; Luis Gonzalez' clutch hit in the 9th to beat the Yankees, the Angels beating the Giants in the World Series, and most of all, The Red Sox coming back from 0-3 to do the impossible and break the curse. Hopefully this year will bring more unforgettable memories...

Another thing that I love about October is college football on Saturdays. Go Big Blue!

November - Ok well let me just say this about November: if Alpine Meadows opens in November, you can bet your bottom dollar I'm going to shred that mountain before Christmas. November is amazing; it's getting real cold now, so I finally get to put my North Face jacket on. November is the month that I sit in class and fantasize about skiing at Alpine Meadows. That's all I think about. Skiing. I live to ski.

December - Christmas. Oh... Need I say more ? Christmas. I could go on and on and on and on and on and on about how Christmas time is the best 2 week span known to mankind. But I have to get back to do some more Flash/AMFPHP developing. I'll just skip the whole Christmas section, and go to January.

January - Skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing

February - Skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing, skiing

And THOSE are my reasons why October - February are heaven.
